The Highlights of Edinburgh Bike Tour starts by cycling down the Royal Mile (the city’s most historic street). You will pass the new Scottish Parliament Building & Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Family’s Edinburgh residence, where you will enter Holyrood Park. You will ride along cycle paths & quiet roads until you ascend Arthur’s Seat, an extinct volcano which offers the most panoramic views of the spectacular coastal setting. On a clear day, even the mountains of the Scottish Highlands can be seen.
Having taken in the stunning views you will begin the long descent as this quiet road winds its way along the craggy contours into the sleepy Duddingston Village. Passing the ancient 12th Century church, you will enter a remarkable ‘secret garden’ known as Dr Neil’s Garden on the shores of Duddingston Loch, now a bird & wildlife sanctuary. The nearby pub, Scotland’s oldest inn, the Sheep’s Heid, is a welcome stop for a refreshing drink with its pleasant garden terrace. Afterwards, you will return to the city along the Innocent Cycle Path a former railway line now a popular ‘rails to trails’ cycleway which brings you back to the starting place of the tour. Of course, there will be enough time to take pictures during the tour and you can ask your guide questions at any time. Our guides are the best source of information so feel free to ask them anything or everything about the city, like where to get the best Scottish haggis.
