For this wonderful excursion we have selected a number of routes, and you can choose which one you prefer. There are a few easy routes, as well as a few for advanced hikers, which are a bit longer and more demanding. Choose your own route for the Table Mountain Hike and enjoy some nature.
Western Table to Maclear’s Beacon: 2 hours – Easy walk on the plateau
This route starts with a cable car ride. Once you arrive on the top, you will get to enjoy a magnificent 360 degree views of the city, Lions Head and the mountain itself. The route continues on to Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point. This is a pleasant, mainly flat walk with great views.
Platteklip Gorge: 2-3 hours – Easy to moderate walk along the most popular route
This route starts with a steep walk. The long staircase to the top is one of the most popular hiking routes. From here, you can take in a breathtaking 360 degree view of the city, Lions Head and the mountain itself.
India Vester: 2-3 hours – Moderate to demanding route
This route offers adventurous hikers an exciting challenge and includes a few steep rocky inclines. This tour starts at the Lower Cable Car station and follows the path of the cable car for two thirds of the route. Afterwards it turns and offers great views of Lion’s Head, Signal Hill and the Atlantic Ocean and Camps Bay below. This route is not suitable for those with a fear of heights!
Twelve Apostles to the Table Mountain Plateau: 4-6 hour – Moderate, the easiest route with variety of views
The route for this tour includes a climb up Kasteelspoort and zigzags its way up a partly shaded gorge beneath the overhanging walls of Spring Buttress. After the hike you will be rewarded with fantastic views of the Twelve Apostles overlooking the Atlantic Coast. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the Valley of the Red Gods and the Valley of Isolation. Afterwards, you will continue onto the plateau for a pleasant walk towards the Upper Cable-way station where the tour ends.
